Benefits of Righteousness

Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

When a person gets born again by obeying Romans 10:9-10, the Word declares that he "believeth unto righteousness." Righteousness is our God given justification whereby we stand in the presence of God without any sense of sin, guilt or condemnation.  It is to be right before God.

Philippians 3:9
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith [believing action] of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith [believing].

We could never walk a walk good enough to be righteous before God.  But, God made us righteous because of the righteous walk of Christ.  Our righteousness is given to us by God.  It is a gift.  There is no work for us to do to receive the righteousness of God and there is no work to do to keep it.

Romans 5:17
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

1 Corinthians 1:30
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

God's Word contains many benefits for the righteous.  All of these promises are given to us as born again believers who have received the righteousness of God in Christ.

God will bless the righteous.

The promise:
Psalm 5:12
For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Its fulfillment in Christ for us:
Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

God will give wisdom to the righteous and make known to them His secret.

The promise:
Proverbs 2:7
He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: . . .
Proverbs 3:32
For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

Its fulfillment in Christ for us:
Ephesians 1:8-9
   Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Having made know unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

Righteous delivers from death.

The promise:
Proverbs 10:2
Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Proverbs 11:4
Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

Its fulfillment in Christ for us:
Ephesians 2:1, 5
   And you hath he quickened, [made alive] who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Ephesians 2:5
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us [made us alive] together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

God loveth the Righteous

The promise:
Psalm 146:8
The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous:

Its fulfillment in Christ for us
Ephesians 2:4-5
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

The righteous shall dwell in the presence of God

The promise:
Psalm 140:13
Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Its fulfillment in Christ for us
Ephesians 2:18, 22
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father,
   Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
   And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

The righteous are bold!

The promise:
Proverbs 28:1
The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Its fulfillment in Christ for us

Ephesians 3:12
In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
II Timothy 1:7

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
1 John 4:17
Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment
[man's day]: because as he is, so are we in this world.

God supplies the needs of the righteous

The Promises:
Psalm 37:25
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Proverbs 10:3a
The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: . . .
Proverbs 13:25
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

In Christ:
Philippians 4:19
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

The righteous shall flourish unto old age.

The Promises:
Psalm 37:25
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

Proverbs 16:31
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

Psalm 92:12-15
The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. THEY SHALL STILL BRING FORTH FRUIT IN OLD AGE; THEY SHALL BE FAT AND FLOURISHING; To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

The palm tree in the Bible lands has a perfectly straight trunk and grows to be 80 to 90 feet tall. It produces some kind of fruit year round. Its root system is so firm that a palm can even stand in a monsoon storm. The cedars of Lebanon are legendary for their beauty and stateliness. They also have strong roots, being rooted in the rocks in the mountains. They are symbols of power, prosperity and longevity.

Proverbs 11:28
He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

In Christ - That which was proclaimed on Pentecost:
Acts 2:17
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

The righteous is an everlasting foundation - We Shall NOT Be Moved!

The promises:

As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee:  he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Fulfillment in Christ:
Romans 8:38-39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God hears the prayers of the righteous

Psalm 34:15
The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
Proverbs 15:29
The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

The fulfillment for us
James 5:16b
. . . The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

1 John 5:13-15
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

The hope of the righteous

The Promise:
Proverbs 10:28
The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

Its fulfillment in Christ:
Romans 5:1-2
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

We have been given the benefits of the righteousness of God.   We stand in this grace and rejoice in hope of the glory of God to come when Christ returns.
